Holy Week and Easter

Holy Week and Easter are some of the most sacred and meaningful times of the entire church year. This is when we remember Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection: his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the meal he shared with his friends on Maundy Thursday, his death on the cross on Good Friday, and his resurrection on Easter morning.

Our worship this year is entirely collaborative with Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, and some others too. Take a look at the times and place of worship this season:

Palm Sunday, March 24
9:30am at First Lutheran Church in Malden.
Holy Week begins with shouts and waving palm branches as we join the crowd to cheer Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. We will gather outside of the church to bless palm branches and process around the neighborhood together, following the cross. Then we’ll transition from the triumphant entry to Jerusalem to the story of Jesus’ passion and death, read dramatically by lectors and the whole congregation.

Maundy Thursday, March 28th
6:00pm at First Lutheran Church in Malden
On Maundy Thursday we remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. This year, we share our own meal during a Dinner church worship service. We’ll meet online and in person to remember Jesus’ greatest commandment: as Christ loved us, so we should love one another. All who join us are welcome to share in the meal and in holy communion.

Good Friday, March 29th
7:00pm at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn
On Good Friday we remember Jesus’ crucifixion and death. Join us to hear the passion story, sing hymns of faith, doubt, and lament at Lutheran church of the Redeemer in Woburn. We’ll meet both online and in person. The evening ends in darkness and silence, and continues the following night …

Easter Vigil, March 30th
6:00pm at First Lutheran Church in Lynn
The Great Vigil of Easter is a celebration like no other. We begin outside around a fire and end in the sanctuary proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ. During the service we tell the stories of what God has done for us: creating the world, liberating the Hebrews from Egypt, the young men from the fiery furnace, and us through the waters of baptism. We end in the light of Easter Sunday, sharing holy communion with one another. This service is hosted by our friends at First Lutheran Church in Lynn.

Easter Sunday, March 31st
9:30am at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn.
Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
We will raise our hands and voices in prayer and praise because God has raised Jesus from the dead – and that changes everything. Join us at 9:30 for festive worship with holy communion as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of new life for all of creation at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn.
