Pastor Emily Hamilton
Pastor Emily grew up in Rochester, NY, studied religion at Vassar College and received her M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary with a focus on preaching and worship. When she’s not participating in the life of the church, she is a runner, a vegetarian, a lover of novels and poetry, and has a weakness for overly dramatic television. Recently she and her partner became parents. She thanks God daily for this remarkable congregation and the beautiful kids in her care.

Heather
Heather moved to Malden with her husband Surf and daughter Scaia in 2015 and started attending First Lutheran shortly thereafter. We quickly felt connected to this small and welcoming community. I am thankful to have found a church that is open and supportive, provides opportunities to learn and grow, and helps us to live out our faith by actively reaching out to the community. I am grateful for our Zoom Sunday worship services and Sunday School that we’ve held during the pandemic but we are looking forward to seeing our friends at church, the impromptu kid dance parties behind the last pew, and sharing in-person worship together with everyone again. I joined church council in January of 2020 and I am excited to take on leadership to support the congregation as we grow and serve together. (Heather shares the role of secretary for church council)

Morgan
I am thrilled I found my church home at First Lutheran after moving to the greater Boston area. The congregation has many ways to get involved outside of Sunday services and I have happily served on different committees, including the search for Pastor Emily! I am excited to continue my work in the congregation as part of the Church Council. Fun fact: Growing up, I was part of a clown troupe that shared God’s love through mime and celebration.
Erika
I first started attending First Lutheran after moving to Malden with my husband Greg. I was looking for church that led with love and welcomed all, and I found that at First Lutheran. I loved (and still do!) how active the congregation was in the greater Malden community. We can’t wait to be back together in the sanctuary again! Outside of church, my husband and I can be found cooking, spending time outdoors, and playing (trying to keep up) with our one-year-old daughter.

Anne
Anne has been attending First Lutheran since Christmas 2006. She finds the congregation to be a warm and supportive church family. She lives in Malden on the same street where the church is located (Waite St). She currently serves as council president.

Sal
I have been a lifelong resident of Malden for 70 years. I met Beverly at recess when I was in first grade and she was in second, and we will be celebrating our 49th anniversary this year. I have two married daughters, 3 grandchildren and one great grandson. My life is all about God and my family. I work part time for a local doctor’s office, I am a Justice of the Peace, and I cook (I do not bake). I know eventually we will resume worshipping in the sanctuary; however, I am contented and spiritually fulfilled worshipping God via ZOOM barefoot and in my shorts and T-shirt with a fresh cup of coffee. (Sal currently serves as council vice president.)

Mark
Mark and his family have been members of FLCM since 2008. From 2009-2015 he served on the council, and has been involved in FLCM’s finances since 2011, in one form or another. In 2006 Mark moved from Germany to Boston to pursue his doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, which he concluded in 2012. From his German roots he inherited his height (6’3”) and a long lineage of vehement defenders of Lutheran Theology, reaching to the 16th century. And despite all of that, he has always been drawn to seek God’s uncompromising love. He and his wife Carine have been married since 2007 and have three joyful daughters. He serves as assistant treasurer.
Bruce (financial secretary), Cindy (treasurer), Jo (co-secretary), and Joanne also serve on council.
