This year, First Lutheran Church in Malden is joining congregations around the world in marking not just 4, but 7 weeks of Advent beginning on November 6th. Advent is the season of waiting, of anticipation, of preparing for Christ to come to us as a baby in Bethlehem and as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords when God’s kingdom is fulfilled on earth. Our culture pushes Christmas itself earlier and earlier, and with it pressure to buy, to make busy, to rush. Advent is countercultural; instead of getting busy, we stop, make space, and wait. This calendar is a gift for the next seven weeks: each day contains a Bible verse, a prayer prompt, a hymn, or an action to interrupt our busy lives with a moment to pause and re-center our days on the coming of Christ to us. Hard copies with hand drawn illustrations from Kathy Schulze will be available in the church building; the digital copy includes links to helpful resources.
