This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine! Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
Our theme song for the week was “This Little Light of Mine” to match our general theme – talents! At Camp Uke, we believe that every person has a light to shine – a talent or ability, their own unique personality, and their inherent value as a beloved child of God. Our different backgrounds and gifts are something we celebrate. Our students showcased all kinds of abilities during our opening sessions: they danced, did gymnastics, shared their art, and even yoyo-ed. Most of them were first time ukulele players, but you’d never know it from the way they played at their final concert. During our time together, campers practiced the ukulele,

played games together,

practiced some more,

created works of art,

and performed an oustanding recital for parents, friends, and community members on Saturday including songs ranging from folk songs like “I Shall Be Released,” to Beatles tunes like “Hey Jude,” and modern hits like “Can’t Stop The Feeling.” Here’s a taste of their finale, “This Land Is Your Land.”
We are proud of the work these students put in to learn a new musical instrument and excited to see where they go from here. Some of them will come back for lessons during “Beginners Part II,” a class from 6-7pm every other Wednesday starting on September 5th. Contact the church office for more information about this free intro class for young musicians-in-training!
