2021 Summer Music Camps

This summer, First Lutheran will offer 2 virtual music camps: Camp Uke and Song-Writing Camp.

From July 12-16, Camp Uke will meet from 9am-12pm, and Song-Writing Camp will run from 1pm-4pm. Both camps will meet online via Zoom.

Who should sign up? Students in grades 3-12 who want to learn! We welcome students with every experience level and music background, whether you play the clarinet in school, sing in a choir, play drums in a rock band, or have never picked up a musical instrument. This is an opportunity to get creative and express yourself.

Camp Uke will include beginning and intermediate/advanced groups. Beginners will learn basic chords featured in popular music. By the end of the week they’ll know several songs! More advanced students will look at strum patterns, advanced chord structures, and maybe even some finger picking. Ukuleles will be provided if needed. During Song-Writing Camp we’ll take a look at basic music notation, rhyming, song forms, different prompts to get started, and music as self-expression. Both camps include crafts and snacks.

Tuition is $75 per program. We do not turn students away for lack of funds; if you need financial assistance, please contact the directors about sliding scale options.

The camps will provide all the necessary materials as well as snacks. If able, please pick up your materials on Sunday, July 11, at 62 Church St, Malden MA. This will allow you to meet the instructors, learn to tune your ukulele, and ask any last minute questions! However, if you need a local delivery, please let us know.

On Saturday, July 17th we will meet up in person for some outdoor fun between 10am-12pm and share some of what we’ve learned (and written) together. The location will be shared when you register.
